What is a wine bar? |
Cabarets were at the origin of wine bars. These were the only meeting places where the different social classes rubbed shoulders with each other, where people came to dine, to be entertained, and to mix.
Today, the wine bar is a friendly restaurant where you are free, at any hour of the day and in complete freedom, to taste a speciality from the land by having a wine of your choice, served either by the glass or by the bottle.

Why are only Bordeaux wines served at "l'Ecluse"? |
Contrary to the other appellations, only one wine corresponds to a particular Bordeaux chateau, which for us is a guarantee of quality. In addition, the 57 recognized appellations (AOCs) and the diversity of the vintages make up a very wide range of tastes and pleasures.
Finally, 70% of consumers prefer Bordeaux wines.

What is Bordeaux Light Red Wine? |
It's a "bled rosé": the harvest is scraped, crushed down, and put into vats in the same way as for a red wine.
After about 12 hours of maceration, the vat is "bled" by letting a volume of juice of up to 12 to 25% of the vat's total volume run out.
This juice, of a more intense pink (or light red if the maceration has been longer) and containing tannins, is then converted into wine in the same way as a red wine.

What are the best vintage years of the 1990s? |
1990 - 1995 - 1996
However, beware, the vintage year is not the only factor that should help you make a choice. In fact, the wine producers are very attentive to the quality of their wine, and some of them have great successes even during difficult years. Only tasting allows you to discover these.

Why is wine served in large glasses? |
The bigger volume of the glass, the easier it is to "turn" the wine in it, the effect of which is to liberate the aromas, thus allowing us to appreciate the wine's nose and to fully benefit from tasting it. |
Are the "l'Ecluse" wine bars open every day? |
Yes, 7 days a week, without restriction, you can taste the à la carte dishes and wines offered from 11.30 a.m. until 1.00 in the morning. |
Is it possible to find the wines tasted in the restaurant in "My Boutique"? |
Yes, with the wine list being changed every six months or so. Our customers appreciate being able to order wines they have enjoyed...at shop prices, of course. |
Where can I buy the "l'Ecluse" glasses? |
At "My Boutique", 1 Rue d'Armaillé in the 17th district of Paris (very close to the "l'Ecluse Carnot). There you will find other original items with the "l'Ecluse" label, such as tableware, porcelain teapots and, of course, Bordeaux wines: treasures and discoveries await you. |
How do you preserve wines served by the glass? |
In each of our wine bars, we have a device called a "cruover". It allows the preservation of the bottles under neutral gas at the serving temperature (around 18° for the Bordeaux reds and 10° for the whites) to prevent any oxidisation of the wine. But you should also know that bottles are consumed within 24 hours after they have been opened. |

What is the origin of "l'Ecluse"? |
In 1950, "l'Ecluse" was the famous cabaret on the "Quai des Grands Augustins", where numerous artistes, such as Barbara and Jacques Brel started their careers. In 1978, the cabaret became a wine bar under our trademark, and today there are 5 in total, all situated in the heart of Paris. |
